Research summary
Overcative bladder (OAB) is a urological condition associated with urgency as the main core symptom. Urgency is defined as the sudden need to pass urine which is difficult to defer and can be graded with various different qualitative measures depending on the severity of said urgency. The grading of urgency is accentuated in women with OAB who experience a high intensity sensation with small volumes. Despite urgency being at the center of OAB, there is no standardization of urgency in women with no pathology which would allow us to compare symptoms between a control and a study population. If volumes and urgency can be standardize in asymptomatic patients, these values could be used as a reference to compare variations from the norm in OAB patients. This new approach would facilitate a way to diagnose OAB based on urgency scores as well as facilitating assessment of the impact of treatment without the need of invasive testing (urodynamics). We intend to identify if there is any correlation between urinary volumes voided and degree of urinary urgency scores in asymptomatic women for OAB. Urgency grading will be recorded in a scale of 0 to 5, reflecting the ability to defer urination until suitable facilities become available.
