Research summary
A case – control pilot study will be conducted. Patients with echocardiographically confirmed aortic stenosis will be identified from echocardiography clinics and cardiology wards. Blood will be collected and assayed for the presence and concentration of calcium phosphate particles by scanning electron microscopy methods, together with serum for calcium and phosphate measured by standard laboratory techniques. Blood samples from subjects without aortic stenosis, identified from individuals having echocardiography for other reasons, will also be collected for the same analyses.
