Research summary
This is an observational study of the effect of medicinal cannabis on the treatment of intractable chronic pain, chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, multiple sclerosis and fibromyalgia. When a doctor prescribes medical cannabis for any of these conditions, he or she asks the patients who are being treated to indicate whether they experience any changes in their symptoms. Patients provide this information through a questionnaire (the PROMIS-29) and it is used by the doctor to monitor each patient's clinical progress. We propose that analysis of data pooled from many patients may give us evidence that medical cannabis can relieve the symptoms of these diseases. It is important to note that this observational study does not involve a separate intervention. The information we intend to interrogate is collected by the doctor regardless of any subsequent analysis.
