  • Data collection arrangements

    Data is collected by patents own care team and entered into the national database in a manner that is non-identifiable.

    Data collection includes;
    Patient characteristics (Gender, Age, Medical conditions etc)
    Operation details (Length, Technical details etc)
    Graft details (Size, Design etc)
    Outcomes (Complications, Date of Death ect)

  • Research programme

    EVAR is used as the 'keyhole' alternative to open surgery for a dilated artery (aneurysm). It involves electively placing a metal and fabric stent within the aneurysm to carry the blood and related pressure through the centre of the aneurysm. If an aneurysm remains untreated it can rupture, which if it occurs normally results in death. Complex EVAR cases involve stent-grafts that consist of more components and are used to treat aneurysms of difficult anatomy that could not be treated by conventional stent-grafts. This is a database of the characteristics and outcomes of complex endovascular aneurysm repairs. These cases are performed in relatively small numbers in individual centre so meaning a national registry is required to monitor efficacy and research information useful to patient selection and stent-graft design. It also gives individual centre the opportunity to compare their local performance against a national data set.
