Research summary
We are going to take samples using bronchoalveolar lavage from the lungs of 50 patients who are undergoing extensive lung surgery to determine which bacteria are present in their lungs at the time of their operation. We will then test the bacteria to see to which antibiotics they are sensitive. If the study shows that there are bacteria present which are not sensitive to our current prophylactic antibiotic we may have to change it.
