Data collection arrangements
Most patients who present with a heart attack, or myocardial infarction, have blocked heart arteries. However, some patients do not have blocked arteries, and these patients are identified as having a myocardial infarction with non-obstructed coronary arteries, or MINOCA.
This database will collect information on patients who have been investigated for MINOCA with an advanced type of heart scan, called a cardiac MRI. This scan provides detailed information about any damage to the heart as a result of presenting with MINOCA. Alongside data from the cardiac MRI, other information such as blood test results and risk factors for heart disease will be collected. The clinical team will identify appropriate patients who are suitable for inclusion in the database. They will then collect the information from electronic patient records and input the data. The information on the database will have been anonymised (all identifying details removed), and stored securely in an electronic format. Only designated people will have access to the database for research purposes. There will an independent data manager who will oversee the database and ensure that all confidentiality and security requirements are maintained.Research programme
The research team will be using the database to understand more about how cardiac MRI impacts the diagnosis and management of patients presenting with MINOCA. The database will collect large volumes of data that can be pooled together, allowing the research team to investigate if there are any particular patterns that might indicate how we can recognise and treat patients with MINOCA. This is extremely important as increasing our knowledge and understanding of these patients can potentially improve how we best care for these patients in the future. The research team includes experienced senior doctors and researchers who specialise in cardiovascular disease and have a specialist interest in MINOCA. They have a strong track record for producing high quality research, which is highly regarded and with international reputation.
