Research summary
Following an international study in 2000 exploring the safety of breech (bottom or feet first)births, there has been a national decline in vaginal breech births. Subsequent studies have shown that there has been a decrease in staff confidence, which in turn has restricted choice for women. There is a new service within Aneurin Bevan Health Board that offers an individualised birth discussion for women with a baby in a breech presentation. The aim of this study is to explore the lived experiences of women attending the breech birth choices discussion. The objectives are to determine whether they feel supported and fully informed when making birth choices, if the opportunity of having these discussions are beneficial and if they have any suggestions to make about the clinic itself.
