Research summary
The research proposed aims to investigate the impact on women’s mental well-being when expectations of breastfeeding are not met by experience. The research will be conducted by asking women to complete questionnaires during the prenatal period. These will ask about their expectations of breastfeeding and parenthood, their beleif in their ability to breastfeed and their current mood and well-being. They will then be asked to complete questionnaires 12 weeks postnatally. These measures will ask about their experience of breastfeeding and parenting and their postnatal mood and well-being. The aim of this research is to investigate whether the discrepancy between expectation and experience impacts on postnatal mood and well-being. \n\nFull protocol for the study can be seen in the study protocol document (version 1.1; 10.01.2014)
