Research summary
We are investigating the relationship between breast cancer and diabetes. Some research suggests that some diabetic medications may improve cancer survival. We want to see if there is any difference in breast cancer outcomes in women who have had different diabetes treatments. The aim is to assess the feasibility of extracting information from primary care records relating to diabetes and its treatment in patients with breast cancer. We have an existing database of patients treated for breast cancer between 1973 and 2007. Those with a registered general practice and have diabetes are eligible. The study will take place in general practices. It is estimated to go on for 12 months. Participants need to provide consent for their medical records to be accessed by the research team, no further participation is needed.
