  • Research summary

The Brainfit Project is a therapeutic, evidence-based innovation designed to help individuals live well with young onset dementia (YOD). The pilot will consist of weekly 2-hour sessions run over a twelve-week period. Each session will include one hour of physical exercise tailored to the needs of each individual. This will be followed by a one-hour educational session based on the principles of Health Promotion and Cognitive Stimulation Therapy (CST) that will cover topics designed to reduce frailty, improve education and information about maintaining health and promote autonomy. It is expected that this will lead to improved quality of life for younger people living with dementia and their families. The pilot will allow us to assess the feasibility of running a mixed physical exercise and health promotion intervention in a young onset dementia population.
