  • Research summary

The aim of the study is to evaluate the effect of body mass index on treatment modalities and outcomes of gynaecological cancer patients.

Currently the influence of body mass index on treatment and outcomes of gynaecological cancer patients is unclear. More than half of all gynaecological patients are overweight or obese, therefore this is an important factor to take into consideration for their care. This study will enable us to evaluate the relation between body mass index and the outcomes of gynaecological cancer patients. We believe this information is paramount for providing quality care for future patients. In addition, this study may pave the way for new interventions to support women before and after cancer treatment.

The study will be a retrospective case review.

The population of this study will be gynaecological cancer patients that have been diagnosed in the past 8 years at West Peninsula Gynaecological Cancer Centre (including the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust and the Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust).

Eligible women are those who have been diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer including ovarian cancer, uterine (endometrial) cancer, cervical cancer, vaginal cancer or vulval cancer, at the age of 18 years or older.

The study will be performed at West Peninsula Gynaecological Cancer Centre (including the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust and the Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust).

The study, including data collection and analysis will last for 1 year. As this is a retrospective case review, there will be no direct contact with patients.
