Research summary
The study primarily encompasses an advanced medication and adherence management system using state-of-the-art technologies, embedded with psychoeducation. This solution will be supporting the Northern Ireland In-depth Medication Adherence Assessment tools and based on the assessment results, corresponding patient-centered adherence.
The main purpose of the study is offer 10-12 patients with Bipolar Disorder, who are judged by their healthcare professional to have issues with medication adherence, or to have had issues previously, medication adherence support. The support will be in the form of a web based Psychoeducation module on relapse prevention and the Biodose Connect™. Each patient will go through an education module on relapse prevention and will set their own goals for future management. Their medication will be given in the Biodose Connect system and they will receive reminder texts if their medication is not taken. The system will be able to alert the CPN and as well as reminding the patient of the medication regime, it will create reports of adherence and a dashboard for HCPs to use.
The Biodose Connect™ service during the period of this study, will provide dispensed medications prescribed and dispensed for patients with a diagnosis of Bipolar disorder together with other co- medications for other existing medical conditions. During this phase 1 study this will be provided via a locally trained and approved community pharmacist team within the trial catchment area (Medicare). The exceptions to this will be medications deemed by the pharmacist not suitable to be placed in such a Biodose podded system.REC name
