Research summary
We intend to develop the ranges for biomarkers (blood tests) and haemodynamics assessments (to assess heart and blood vessel function) in women with healthy pregnancies prior to full term. This will help us to compare these assessments with women who have small and growth restricted babies.
These women will be approached when they attend for a growth scan between 32 - 36+6 weeks of gestation. If the scan shows a normally grown baby they will be offered a blood test and cardiovascular assessment. These will be repeated 2 weeks later, at delivery and in the postnatal period to assess results longitudinally.
Women with small and growth restricted babies are currently being recruited into the NIHR funded TRUFFLE 2 study and having the same investigations.
