  • Data collection arrangements

Samples gifted to the bank include any left over tissue, blood or other bodily fluids collected from children in the course of tests or treatment in hospital. These samples are otherwise thrown away. The samples will only be kept with the written informed consent of the child and their parent or guardian. We may also ask family members to donate small samples to help with the research providing they give the same level of written informed consent. Samples and data are stored in secure locations on HTA licenced premises within Newcastle University

  • Research programme

The purpose of the bank is to store material for use in research into the causes and potential treatment of disease in childhood. The aim is to make the material available to the broadest range of researchers, in Newcastle and worldwide, to discover new information that will help future children.
