Research summary
This is a Randomised Controlled Study to investigate the following:
Will pregnant women with a BMI of 30 or over who receive the Best Start intervention be more likely achieve the recommend weight gain of between 5-9kgs.
This will be compared to those who continue with routine antenatal care.
We wish to investigate if obese pregant women who gain the recommended weight of 5-9 kgs during pregnancy have better outcomes for themselves and their child, compared to those women who gain more or less weight. To do this we will look at all the routine information collected during antenatal and postnatal care for both mother and baby. We also want to investigate if weight in pregnancy will affect a child’s weight at aged 4/5.REC name
