Research summary
Overview
The Best for You programme will introduce a new service model for the delivery of mental health care within a paediatric setting. It will start from the point of engagement with the service, through an initial assessment by an inpatient multi-disciplinary team, with care coordinated through a digital hub, community services and a day programme. These services will be supported by multi-disciplinary working across all sites and services, the development of a training and education programme and through the introduction of a community partnership programme to provide preventative and support services to service users and their families.
Purpose
Best for You will be evaluated, in order to demonstrate how the programme has been implemented, which aspects of the programme have achieved their key objectives and to assess its cost-effectiveness. From these finding a model which can be generalised and subsequently scaled up across different geographical regions which be developed. The model will need to take into account the complexity of the programme and the differing contexts in which it may be effective.
Research Methods
This mixed-methods evaluation will be conducted through a series of 1:1 interviews and observations of group meetings and workshops with a diverse group of people involved in delivering the programme. This will include NHS doctors, managers, nurses, allied health professionals, data analysts, and commissioners, as well as stakeholders from other organisations including charities and non-NHS service providers and volunteers. In addition, data will be collected on the experiences of patients and their families using the services, either through interviews or surveys administered through the service. Quantitative data will also be collected to assess service utilisation such as attendances in the emergency department performance indicators, before and after the introduction of the new programme and to support the economic evaluation to assess the cost-effectiveness of the programme.REC name
