Research summary
In a study called BEE, researchers are comparing different moisturisers for children with the dry itchy skin condition, eczema, to see which one works best and is liked by children and their family. Parents of children with eczema are being invited to take part via their GP surgery and randomly allocated to receive one of four types of moisturiser (lotion, gel, cream or ointment). Families are asked to try to use only this treatment during the study. Families in BEE have often used a range of different moisturisers before they join the study and their may be some that they like better.
In this new project, we will examine information from audio-recorded conversations between research nurses and participants or their parents at the beginning of the study. We want to know if preferences for previously tried treatments were reported and if this could have an impact on recruitment and retention. We will also examine the consent process and provision of information about the study by research nurses.
