Research summary
The principal objective is to purify Bence Jones proteins from the donated urine of patients with monoclonal gammopathies. Specifically, these are patients who are likely to have significant levels of free kappa or lambda paraproteins in their urine. These proteins will be used in the manufacture, development and validation of paraprotein diagnostic assays. These paraprotein diagnostic assays aid clinicians in diagnosis and help to monitor the treatment of patients with monoclonal gammopathies. As these proteins cannot be manufactured artificially the participation of patient volunteers is essential.
