  • Data collection arrangements

Be Part of Research (BPoR) is a public facing, voluntary, research recruitment registry. It is open to anyone who resides in the UK and is over the age of 18.

Volunteers can resgiter via the online portal at https://bepartofresearch.nihr.ac.uk/.

Data collected and held in the database is minimal: Volunteer Name, Address, Postcode, Date of Birth, Sex, Gender, ethnicity, email address, phone number (optional), health research interest, presence of a long term condition, and its
impact (no specifics on the condition are collected). The collected data are used only for the targeting and sending of study invites.

  • Research programme

Members of the public voluntarily register with the service so that they can be contacted by researchers conducting research in health areas that they are interested in. Volunteers are matched to suitable studies on the basis of their demographic information, location and health interests. Volunteers are then sent an invite email containing information on the study details and how to enrol or retrieve further details. Contacting the study team is then up to the volunteer. The BPoR registry service is free to use for both volunteers and study teams. Study teams do need to be registered with the BPoR service and eligibility is limited to those studies that meet the below criteria: the study is listed on the NIHR Research Delivery Network Portfolio and/or is in receipt of NIHR funding. BPoR is listed as a recruitment tool in their approved Research Ethics Committee application, along with the study invitation email to be sent to volunteers. The study is registered on ISRCTN or ClinicalTrials.gov (for commercial studies, or those not included in the NIHR RDN portfolio) and that the information on those sites is kept up to date.
