Research summary
Women who have had radiotherapy to the upper chest under the age of 36 as treatment for Hodgkin Lymphoma are at a higher risk of developing secondary breast cancer. We want to look at whether women who are at higher risk are having annual breast screening according to the national breast cancer screening protocol. We would also like to know what the reasons behind possible deviations from the protocol are. We invite women to participate who have previously attended a national risk review for secondary breast cancer in 2003/4 at the Christie and the Royal Marsden. The Cancer Registry North West will supply us with date of death so we can exclude any patients who have died. We will then send questionnaires to eligible women, asking them about their breast screening frequency and if they have had any issues gaining screening appointments. Following the return of the questionnaires, we will contact breast screening centres to verify screening and dates. Our analysis will concentrate on looking at the percentage of women who had issues with their screening and reasons behind the issues.
