  • Research summary

Diabetes is the commonest cause of kidney disease leading to the need for dialysis or transplantation. Proteins that regulate the activation of immune cells and can lead to tissue injury, known as the B7 family of proteins, have recently been implicated in the development of diabetic kidney disease, known as diabetic nephropathy. This study aims to determine whether B7 family members and related signalling molecules are upregulated in kidney biopsy tissue for patients with diabetic nephropathy and other forms of kidney disease.
