Research summary
The research endeavours to explore attitudes and behaviours towards eating and nutritional recommendations in adult cystic fibrosis patients who attend the Newcastle cystic fibrosis unit at the RVI. In addition to looking at the prevalence of dysfunctional attitudes and behaviours, findings will be used to inform future practice, potentially highlighting areas for psychological and dietetic intervention.
Once informed consent has been obtained, patients will be asked to complete a series of self-report questionnaires to gather both qualitative and quantitative information. These will include some validated questionnaires to measure mood (anxiety and depression), eating attitudes and behaviours, self esteem and a diet and a nutrition questionnaire designed by the Cystic fibrosis clinical psychologist and dietician. Information will also be gathered so that the population can be accurately described in terms of gender, age, BMI, pancreatic sufficiency and whether patients have CF related diabetes. Questionnaires will be completed during routine clinic appointments or annual review appointments at the RVI. The study aims to recruit 100 participants.
