Research summary
Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition that affects many people, leading to a variety of physical and psychological challenges. This research aims to explore the relationship between attachment styles (the way a person relates to others), illness perceptions (a person’s beliefs about illness), and anxiety in people with Parkinson’s. We are aiming to understand whether different attachment styles are related to anxiety levels, and whether illness perceptions mediate these relationships. By understanding how individuals perceive their illness and how their attachment styles are related to levels of anxiety, we hope to identify pathways that could inform targeted interventions to improve mental health outcomes. We hope that the insights gained will contribute to better support strategies and ultimately enhance the quality of life for those living with Parkinson’s.
