Research summary
This is a simple study with a minimal time commitment and deviation from standard care for participants involved. We wish to assess the prevalence of chronic pain following a burn injury, how pain affects burns survivors and how their pain is managed in the long-term.
We wish to discover the prevalence of chronic pain in our population of burn survivors to allow comparison to other published studies. We also wish to determine the severity of the pain experienced and the effect this has on the lives of the patients. We wish to see if there is a relationship between the development of chronic pain and demographic factors, type and extent of burn injury sustained and inpatient pain management.
We also wish to evaluate how any persistent pain caused by the burns injury is managed following hospital discharge; in particular the long-term prescribing of opioids and neuropathic medications.REC name
