  • Research summary

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is one of the most common health problems worldwide and affects many aspects of a person’s life, including their sexual health. People with heart disease often experience challenges in sexual function due to physical limitations, side effects of medications, and emotional factors such as anxiety or fear. Despite this, sexual health is not always discussed as part of routine cardiac care, and patients may feel uncomfortable raising such concerns themselves.

This study aims to understand sexual function in patients with CVD who are attending Raigmore Hospital, a District General Hospital serving the North of Scotland. We will use a short, validated questionnaire called the PROMIS-SF Sexual Function and Satisfaction Brief Profile, which helps assess different aspects of sexual health in a sensitive and structured way.

The study will include adult patients with cardiovascular conditions who attend the hospital’s cardiac services. Participation is voluntary, and patients can choose not to take part without affecting their care. The information collected will be anonymous and kept confidential.

By gathering this information, we hope to gain a clearer picture of how sexual function is affected in this group of patients. The results will help healthcare staff understand the extent of these issues and highlight the importance of discussing sexual health as part of routine cardiac care. This could lead to better support, advice, and treatment for patients in the future.
