Research summary
The Quality of Life (QOL) of patients with cleft lip and palate (CLP) is undoubtedly improved at an early age with surgical intervention. However, whilst the immediate aesthetic and functional requirements of the face are met at an early age, other problems may emerge at a later date. Dental issues may also affect patients, including missing and the delayed eruption of teeth, displaced and impacted teeth and even failure of restorations that replace these teeth, all of which may affect the QOL of the patient beyond their early years.
This project hopes to evaluate these issues further and determine the patient related factors that are important in trying to improve their outcome and satisfaction.
The study will involve investigating CLP patients who attending hospitals for dental treatment to improve their oral function and evaluate their QOL before and after treatment. The study will involve patient questionnaires and will not affect patient treatment.REC name
