  • Research summary

    This study is about how patients feel when using different types of infusion pump systems for subcutaneous immunoglobulin (SCIg) therapy. SCIg is a treatment where antibodies are given under the skin to help people with conditions such as primary or secondary immunodeficiency (when the immune system does not work properly) or chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, also called CIDP (a nerve disorder).

    There are two types of pumps being studied. Mechanical pumps, such as the KORU Freedom60 and FreedomEdge, do not need batteries or electricity. They use special tubing to control the speed of the infusion. Electronic pumps, such as Crono or Micrel devices, use power to deliver the infusion. Both types of pumps are already approved and are used in regular care.

    The study will ask patients about their experiences with these pumps. It will focus on how easy the pumps are to learn, how easy they are to use, whether the instructions are clear, how comfortable the infusions feel, and overall satisfaction. Patients who already use electronic pumps will first answer questions about their current experience and then try a mechanical pump to compare. Patients who have not used an electronic pump will also answer questions, so that their experiences can be compared.

    Around 78 patients will take part in this study at up to 10 hospitals in six countries. Together they will complete about 130 questionnaires. The main goal is to find out whether patients prefer mechanical or electronic pumps, and the reasons behind their choice.

    The results will provide useful information for both patients and healthcare professionals, helping them to make more informed decisions about which type of pump may be best suited to individual needs.
