Research summary
We will conduct qualitative interviews with people who have arthritis to explore how arthritis impacts work and wellbeing. This study forms part of a larger programme of work, the overall aim of which is to provide guidance to employers and policymakers about how they can support improved wellbeing among working-age people who are diagnosed with arthritis.
To achieve this, we will utilise a mixed-methods approach in a number of work packages.
Work package 1: Quantitative analysis of publicly available data on people with arthritis from the UK Household longitudinal survey (UKHLS).
Work package 2: (this application) A series of qualitative semi-structured interviews with UK based people who have arthritis and recent experience of paid work.
Work package 3: Co-production of policy recommendations.
Work packages 1 and 3 do not require ethical approval. Therefore, this application relates to work package 2, (qualitative interviews) only.
The aim of this study (Work package 2) is to capture the different experiences of people with arthritis in the workplace and how that affected wellbeing. This will be explored in people who did and did not experience employment changes, focussing on whether their experiences were negative or positive for wellbeing.REC name
