Research summary
Stroke can have a devastating impact on a person's life and family. Several other illnesses and risk factors are associated with stroke and these can be identified through specific markers found in blood tests.
We will use a dataset of all stroke patients in NHS Grampian from 2010 to 2018, which contains approximately 7000 records. This dataset will be linked to hospital admission records and to a dataset which contains a blood test results taken at the time of admission for stroke. We will investigate how the results of these blood tests are associated with what happens after stroke, this will include the severity of the stroke, how long a person has stayed in hospital, and their risk of death. These findings will help make shared decisions on appropriate care and treatment for a person's recovery after stroke.REC name
