  Samples/data to be stored and collection/consent arrangements (maximum 200 words):
  Samples will be stored within the accredited pathology laboratories in any of the hospitals included with the Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services. Frozen tissues and fluids will be kept in locked -80 and -20 freezers as required.

  Samples will be sent to researchers by courier where necessary - access to tissue within the bank will only be by members of the tissue bank staff.

• Research programme

  Human tissue in research plays an important role in developing a deeper understanding of human disease. Human Tissues can also be used to predict how effective potential new therapies are, identify new targets for therapies and to discover some of the possible unwanted side effects of therapies. Arden Tissue Bank (ATB) aims to provide researches with access to a wide range of high quality human tissue, whilst following national legislation. ATB store surgical tissues & Body fluids that have been taken for diagnosis as part of the patient’s normal clinical routine. Once the diagnosis has been established, the tissue is normally destroyed. However, ATB stores these tissues and makes them available for ethically approved projects. ATB also works with NHS National Blood and Transplant, and offers a practical laboratory, advice and support to a number of research teams within the Trust as well as local Universities and has facilities to provide a range of routine histology services. All samples are stored securely and in compliance with the Human Tissue Act 2006. This is the legal framework that exists in the UK to monitor the storage and use of human cells and tissues.
