Research summary
This study involves taking additional blood samples from patients newly diagnosed with a blistering skin condition called bullous pemphigoid (BP).
These samples will be analysed to see if people with differing forms of BP (e.g. predominantly blisters versus predominantly red, itchy areas of skin) have different antibodies causing the disease, or different proteins on the surface of their cells known as Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLA).
In some patients with BP, a drug may be the cause and we will also look at what drugs have been prescribed to patient with the differing forms of BP.
From this information, we hope to find out why BP can look and act very differently from patient to patient.
