Data collection arrangements
Cord blood and tissue will be consented and collected from 5 maternity units in the UK (Leicester royal infirmary, Leicester general hospital, kings college hospital, St Mary’s hospital Manchester and Wythenshaw hospital). Dedicated Anthony Nolan collection staff are situated at these site. The staff are trained to educate, obtain informed consent and collected umbilical cord blood and tissue ex utero after the birth of the baby and outside of the birthing area to ensure there is no compromise or distraction to the mothers or newborns care.
Adult cells including whole blood, bone marrow, peripheral blood mononuclear cells (collected by apheresis) and peripheral blood stems cell (mobilised by GCSF and collected by apheresis) will be collected from consented donors from approached from the Anthony Nolan register. Collection will be performed at a third party collection site under an SLA agreement with Anthony Nolan.
Research programme
Anthony Nolan wants to facilitate ethical research and developments in the Cell and Gene Therapies sector, with an aim to improve the quality of patient’s lives with the launch of its Cell and Gene Therapies Service. The Cell and Gene Therapies Service is; The use of hematopoietic cells, bone marrow, whole blood or lymphocytes from volunteer adult donors or cord blood or tissufor research and development in the field of medical therapy including cell and gene therapy, which may involve the development and manufacture of therapeutic products for patients.
