  • Research summary

The proposal is for using biological material obtained for the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) cohort. Initially recruited into the study were pregnant women between 1991 and 1992. The children arising from the pregnancies and their family members have been followed up since that time and an extensive amount of biological material and data is available for the study.

This proposal is for the analysis of deciduous (baby) teeth which the study children were invited to send to ALSPAC when they were at the stage of their teeth falling out. Teeth can be used to determine exposure levels of metals and chemicals as well as other compounds and infection. As extensive data is available on the participants, who are now 24/25 years of age, exposure type and duration in early life can be analysed against specific outcomes.
