Research summary
Body image disturbance is a key diagnostic criteria within eating disorders, and considered to be responsible for onset, maintenance and relapse. However, current recommended talking therapies do not directly address this issue.
This study proposes to use an online body image training program to test whether positive change in body image perception in both adolescents (Study 1) and adult (Study 2) populations with Anorexia or Bulimia Nervosa, Binge-Eating or Atypical Eating Disorder can be found.
The study will also investigate the acceptability of the training program through semi structured interviews with participants.
The study will take place with out-patients accessing Community Mental Health & Eating Disorder Services. The study will run over 13 months. Participants will be asked to engage with the study over a 4 day period, with 2 further follow ups at weeks 2 and 4.
