Research summary
The proposed in-depth study will focus on a small group of women with forensic histories with schizophrenia or schizo-affective disorder who are currently detained in a secure unit. They will take part in an eight week Meta-cognitive Training group and complete pre and post measures and provide their views during an interview after they have taken part in the group. There will be follow up measures one month later along with a further interview.
The aim is to assess whether Meta-cognitive Training (MCT) has an effect on their cognitive biases, attitudes to offending and if these are maintained over time. The study will also aim to gain insight into the individual’s personal experience of the MCT group and if they feel it is something that has benefited them and may be useful to others.
