Research summary
This project has been designed to gain a greater understanding of self-management in wound care. Self-management is defined as patients taking care of their own health with the support of health care professionals such as nurses and doctors. In this project, self management refers to patients being supported to take care of their own wounds. Self-management has been used in other health conditions, such as diabetes and asthma, and has been successful. In this project, we are interested in patients' views on being involved in managing their own wounds. The research will be conducted at Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust within community services. Any patient with a wound, who is considered to have the ability to be involved in their care, will be invited to take part. Participants will be interviewed about their wound care for approximately an hour at a location to suit them. The researcher will interview approximately 12 participants in total and the research study is likely to take about 3 months.
