Research summary
Coping Through Football (CTF) is an innovative project that engages people with significant mental illness in a range of group activities that include but are not limited to football. The initiative’s outcomes are to:
1) Provide a route back to employment, volunteering, education and training
2) Reignite their social skills
3) Increase their self-esteem and confidence
4) Improve the physical health of the target group
5) Reduce their reliance on alcohol, cigarettes and recreational drugs
6) Improve relationships with health professionals and reduce the use of acute care.
We aim to study the social, occupational and health benefits of the project by collating as wide as possible a range of responses. We aim to contact prior scheme attenders by telephone using a short structured interview. We will then interview in greater depth a selected sub-sample representative of a range of outcomes.REC name
