• Research summary

  The impact of AMD in patient’s quality of life helps to characterize the real impact of the disease in the patient’s everyday life. However, most research only takes into account visual acuity as a marker of quality of life. Importantly, patient’s coping strategies to loss of visual acuity differ between individuals and the measurement of visual acuity may not accurately reflect theirs changes in quality of life. Therefore, better methods to predict quality of life from visual acuity are necessary to understand how this disease is impacting society in general. This will also help to model appropriate service provisions and give directives for funding of healthcare in this area.
