Data collection arrangements
Only minimal data will be stored specifically for this project - details of consent to take part and a short baseline health questionnaire. This project will seek to take advantage of the routine medical data that is carefully stored and protected for all NHS patients.
Baseline data will be stored in locked filing cabinets and in anonymised form on an encrypted computerised database. When sufficient participants have joined the study, with sufficient follow-up, baseline data will be linked with other sources of data to help understand the natural history of alcohol and liver disease.Research programme
This research is really important to help us understand alcohol related liver disease. This has traditionally been underfunded and underresearched compared to other less common causes of liver disease. Information about the natural history will allow us to better treat and more importantly try to prevent alcohol related liver disease. This project is being undertaken within the Leeds Liver Unit which is a growing academic centre in addition to the well established specialist clinical service.
