Research summary
Exposure to air pollution has many harmful effects on human health and people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma are especially vulnerable to the damaging effects of air pollutants. Air pollution can lead to serious COPD exacerbation and increase complications. We will select 44 patients with COPD to take part in this study and measure their lung function on two occasion 3 months apart to see if there is any deterioration in their symptoms and lung health related to the air pollution in their home areas.
