Research summary
There is a growing evidence base to link the creative arts to improving wellbeing and quality of life, for older people in the community and in hospitals. To date, however, there have been no studies investigating whether art interventions, such as music, dance, and artistic drawings, can support patients in their own homes, particularly for patients who cannot leave their own homes due to their illnesses.
The project will evaluate the effects of arts-based activities for patients cared for at home. The arts-based activities will be similar to those received by patients in hospital through The Oxford Health Arts Partnership (OHAP).Project Aims
Understand the effects of arts activities for patients after treatment with the Hospital at Home team;
Test the potential of a pilot creative arts intervention to improve patient wellbeing (including perception of pain and impact on isolation)
Learn about the impact of supporting arts-based projects on staff wellbeing
This study aims to investigate the effect of arts interventions as a nonpharmaceutical analgesic, in supporting elderly people in the community through chronic pain, social isolation and with their quality of life.
