Research summary
This study will assess how easy and useful it is for doctors to use new artificial intelligence (AI) features during routine gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy procedures. These include procedures like colonoscopy (lower GI) and upper GI endoscopy, which are commonly used to examine the digestive tract.
The AI features being tested are designed to support doctors by providing real-time information while they carry out the procedure. For example, the system may estimate the size of a polyp, measure how long the doctor takes to carefully withdraw the scope, or help identify important areas inside the stomach or bowel. These features aim to improve how procedures are done, but they do not make any decisions — doctors still make all clinical decisions as usual.
The study is observational, which means it will not change the care that patients receive in any way. The AI features will run in the background during the endoscopy and will not affect how the procedure is carried out. The focus of the study is to assess how well these tools fit into the doctors' workflow and whether they are helpful in practice.
Doctors will be asked to use the features and provide feedback. No extra procedures or tests are required for patients, and written consent will be obtained beforehand.
The study will take place at NHS hospitals across the UK and will run over a period of approximately 30 days at each site. It is sponsored by Odin Medical Ltd., a UK-based medical technology company.
The results will help guide future improvements in the use of AI in endoscopy and ensure that these tools are safe, effective, and easy for endoscopists to use in real-life settings.
