Research summary
At the moment, definitions of what it means to be ageing well or successfully often include having ‘good’ physical or mental health. This means people with mental health difficulties, particularly, people who hear voices or have unusual beliefs (called psychosis), do not meet this definition.
In this study, we want to ask people aged fifty and above, who have lived with psychosis, what they think ageing well means to them. We also want to find out what services are doing to help them in older age. This is important because we want to know how services can provide better support for these people.
People across the North West will be asked to meet the researcher. If they say yes the researcher will ask them some questions about what they think ageing well means to them. People can say as much or as little as they wish to. Their answers will be recorded. The researcher will look at everybody’s answers to try and find similarities (themes).
