Research summary
The Tommy’s Project exists to reduce preventable stillbirth within Greater Manchester by the application of basic science research. Through the Tommy’s project, a large cohort of pregnancy data and standardised tissue is collected from women with risk factors for placental disease such as pre-eclampsia, fetal growth restriction and prematurity. This will simplify the research system for patients within St. Mary's and improve our chances of successful identifying measures that will lower the rate of stillbirth in Manchester and the UK as a whole. The principal aim of the After Tommy’s study is to understand how pregnancy diseases may affect mothers and infants after birth.
