Research summary
This proposal is a qualitative study of the phenomena of acceptability. The research will use individual patient interviews and staff focus groups to explore and understand the quality of care delivered by Advanced Clinical Practitioners when caring for patients who present to an Emergency Department with atraumatic chest pain.
This research will take place within Emergency Departments in the national health system of the United Kingdom. The population for this study is patients who present to the Emergency Department with atraumatic chest pain and staff who work with Advanced Clinical Practitioners in emergency care.
Semi structured interviews will be used to collect data from patients, the sample size is 15. The interviews, lasting 30 minutes, will take place in person or via Microsoft teams and led by the lead investigator. Staff from Emergency Departments, up to 3 sites, across the UK will be recruited to take part in focus groups. The focus groups will be face to face or via Microsoft teams again led by the lead investigator. Both the focus groups and interviews will be recorded and undergo verbatim transcription, following this a six phase thematic analysis process will be used to identify the key themes.
The results of this study will form part of large mixed methods study for the purpose of doctoral research.
