Research summary
The number of people who have Type 2 diabetes in the UK South Asian population is increasing and research has found that some South Asians with diabetes find it difficult to adhere to the recommended self-management regimes compared to people from other groups in the UK population.Adherence can be described as making a choice then setting a goal followed by planning and how to carry out the treatment regimens. Once the patients accept the treatment recommendations they then decide to either adhere to the guidelines or not adhere. It is common for individuals with diabetes to find it difficult to keep up with adhering to treatment regimes as it can be difficult to incorporate them into their lifestyle. Patients with Type 2 diabetes will be invited to participate in a semi-structured interview to ask about their views and experience of patient adherence to the diabetes self-management regimes. We would like to find out more about why this is in order to develop an intervention to improve self-management and help you control your diabetes for better health.
