  • Research summary

Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) is a frequent complication in critically ill patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) and one of the first large epidemiological studies (AKI-EPI) provided much useful information to inform additional research. The AKI-EPI 2 trial will aim to build on the success of the original AKI-EPI study which has almost 3000 citations and remains the most comprehensive study to-date in general ICU patients. The aim of AKI-EPI 2 is to update this knowledge and to provide further information with regard to longer follow up and the interface between AKI, AKD and CKD.
