  • Research summary

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) affects 10,000 people in the United Kingdom (UK). People with Cystic Fibrosis (PWCF) typically die from lung damage at a median age of 28 years. Randomised controlled trials show that preventative medications reduce exacerbations and/or preserve lung function. However adherence to medication is poor. We have been funded to undertake a five year programme to develop and evaluate a new approach to helping PWCF adhere to their nebulisers. Part of this approach is development of a CF website (CFHealthhub) which will allow patients and clinicians to work together to improve patient adherence to medication.
In this sub-study we aim to conduct preliminary research with PWCF to start to evaluate CFHealthhub (the intervention) which will be trialled in a larger scale randomised controlled trial as part of the programme. This sub-study includes a questionnaire to review routinely collected adherence data via the CFhealthhub website to gather feedback from participants on how adherence data is to be presented within the site. The research will help inform the next stages of research to test the intervention in PWCF.
