  • Data collection arrangements

AccessALL is a long-term research biobank collecting biological samples and health data from adults aged 18 and over registered with participating GP practices other other partner organisations in England. Samples include blood, cerebrospinal fluid, skin biopsies, and derived materials such as DNA. Health data includes GP records, hospital records, and participant questionnaires. Participants are identified through secure searches of GP records conducted on behalf of their GP practice. Invitations are sent by secure message on behalf of the GP practice. Participants read a plain-language information sheet and provide informed consent through an electronic platform or by telephone. All participation is voluntary. Samples and data are pseudonymised — personal details are replaced with a code — before transfer to the research environment. Biological samples are stored at Queen Mary University of London in accordance with the Human Tissue Act 2004. Participants may withdraw at any time. Two withdrawal options are available: partial withdrawal, where data already collected may still be used; and full withdrawal, where data and samples are deleted where possible.

  • Research programme

AccessALL supports long-term health research across multiple disease areas including Parkinson's disease, heart and metabolic conditions, lung disease, and healthy ageing. By following participants over many years, researchers can study how health changes over time and identify the earliest signs of disease — when treatment may be most effective. Approved researchers from universities, NHS organisations, and life sciences companies may apply to access pseudonymised data and samples for ethically approved research. All applications are reviewed by the AccessALL Management Committee and must meet strict standards before access is granted. Researchers work in secure environments and cannot identify participants from the data they receive. The platform supports an embedded sub-study, AccessBrainHealth, which collects cerebrospinal fluid, blood, and skin samples to investigate early biological changes associated with Parkinson's disease. Discoveries made through AccessALL could lead to earlier detection of disease, better treatments, and improved care for future generations. Participants and the public will receive regular plain-language updates on research progress. All findings will be published and made publicly available. Patient and public involvement has shaped the design of AccessALL from the outset and will continue through a formal quarterly PPI Advisory Group throughout the lifetime of the platform.
