Research summary
The aim of this two-phase mixed methods acceptability study is to explore the perspectives and preferences of patients at West Suffolk hospital regarding the potential roll-out of immediate access medical to test results via the patient portal. In Phase 1, a cross-sectional survey will be conducted with registered users of the portal to assess acceptability of immediate access to test results. In Phase 2, participants from Phase 1 will be recruited for qualitative semi-structured interviews to explore their views further, including perceived barriers and enablers to immediate access to test results. The findings from the two phases will be consolidated to support the design of an implementation strategy for the potential roll-out of immediate access to test results via the patient portal at West Suffolk hospital.
West Suffolk Hospital has an established patient portal user group and a staff portal steering group who will be involved in all aspects of the project from protocol development through to dissemination of the results.Aim: To explore the acceptability of immediate access to test results via a hospital patient portal
